Queen Street Mall: Stage

Location

The Queen Street Mall Stage is the mall’s only purpose‑built performance space and one of its most recognisable and sought‑after locations.

Centrally located between George and Albert Streets, it features a fixed stage with an expansive roof and open audience area, creating a strong focal point for public engagement. Equipped with high‑quality audio, the space is ideal for branded performances, launches, presentations and public events seeking maximum exposure in Brisbane’s premier pedestrian precinct.

Space Available

The Queen Street Mall Stage is managed as a single activation space comprising the fixed stage and the audience area directly in front. Any activation proposing use beyond this combined stage and audience area must be discussed with the Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA) prior to approval.

All activations must be designed to maintain public amenity, support pedestrian movement and minimise impacts on surrounding traders.

Within the audience area, layouts must be centrally positioned and kept clear of braille trails, with a minimum clearance of 1 metre on either side of all braille trails.

A continuous clearway must be maintained at all times to allow access for emergency vehicles.

BEDA will provide guidance to support the development of site plans. All site plans must be submitted to BEDA for review and approval prior to installation.

Audio, Lighting & Equipment Available

The stage is the only space equipped with an in‑house sound and lighting system, operated by a BEDA team member.

The following equipment is available for use on the stage, on request:

• Professional front‑of‑house PA system and stage monitors
• Digital mixing console
• Radio microphones
• Mac for playback
• Media splitter
• Stage lighting, including LED Fresnels with iPad control
• Event furniture, including a lectern, folding chairs, tensa‑barriers, trestle tables, brochure stands, and stage access steps

Availability

Brisbane City Council holds a regular booking at 12:00 pm every Wednesday, from February to November, for a First Nations program titled Gathering on the Queen Street Mall Stage.

Where required, Gathering may be relocated, in consultation with BEDA, to accommodate other approved uses of the stage. Any relocation costs will be the responsibility of the event organiser and are subject to negotiation.

Storage

The stage includes direct access to a small dressing room with a limited storage area.

BEDA does not accept deliveries prior to the day of the event. All equipment and materials must be removed from site immediately following the conclusion of the event, unless otherwise approved by BEDA.

Power, Water & Amenities

Power:

• Multiple 10 amp single-phase outlets
• 1 x 15 amp single-phase outlet
• Multiple 32 amp three-phase outlets

Water:

• 1 x tap

Basic bathroom facilities within the dressing room.

Sound Levels

Restrictions apply to sound levels. Amplification is permitted for speeches and light entertainment; however, performances at concert‑level volumes are not permitted. While BEDA regularly hosts live music performances on the stage, all activities must comply with applicable sound restrictions.

BEDA staff will be onsite, as required, to monitor and test sound levels to ensure compliance.

Fees

BOOKING FEES

Booking fee $3,000 +GST per day

REDUCTIONS

Bookings of three or more days 10% discount on booking fee

Registered charities and NFP's 50% discount on booking fee

NOTE: BEDA does not offer half-day or hourly rates

STAFF FEES

BEDA Site Manager / Audio Tech $65 +GST per hour, minimum four-hour call

It is a mandatory requirement to have one BEDA Staff member in attendance for set-up and dismantle of your event. In some cases a staff member will be required for the duration of the event.

Site Security & After-Hours Operations

Overnight or after‑hours work requires security to be present.

Where installations, infrastructure, equipment, or materials are left onsite outside approved operating hours, event organisers must engage a suitably licensed security provider at their own cost. Security personnel must remain onsite for the full duration that items are unattended.

Vehicle Access & Construction Work - Permitted Hours

Vehicle access restrictions apply in the Queen Street Mall. All vehicle access requires a permit issued in advance by BEDA.

Permitted vehicle access times are outlined below (refer to diagram).

Work involving construction activities or the use of machinery may only occur between midnight and 7:00 am.
