DogTap Brisbane poured beers for its first customers today before a new state-of-the-art brewery kicks off local production in January 2020.
BrewDog’s expansion into Australia has been supported by Brisbane City Council through its economic development board Brisbane Marketing and the Queensland Government through the Advance Queensland Industry Attraction Fund.
The brewery is creating a breadth of new local jobs, with 100 employees expected to be based at the Murarrie site within the year and 150 in the next five years.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said BrewDog’s $30 million investment in Brisbane would drive economic growth and add to Brisbane’s appeal as a leisure and lifestyle city.
“Every business that establishes a base in Brisbane is driving local jobs and economic growth, which has a significant trickle-down effect in the local community. This is why Brisbane City Council’s support of businesses both large and small is so important,” Cr Schrinner.
“Council and Brisbane Marketing have worked closely with BrewDog in their establishment of this business and we will continue to invest in initiatives, grants and support to small business to make the Brisbane of tomorrow even better than it is today.”
While it is Scotland-born, BrewDog is making sure it is establishing strong Aussie roots. In addition to offering the famed BrewDog Headliners (including the industry-shaking Punk IPA) and small-batch brews, DogTap Brisbane is pouring the best craft beer from across the Sunshine State, including Range Brewing, Currumbin Valley Brewing, Balter, Aether, Brouhaha and Black Hops through the bar’s dedicated guest taps. The wine list features an all Aussie line-up, with a strong turnout of Australian distilleries on the spirits list and local-only soft drinks.
Showcasing and learning from Australian independent breweries is a huge focus for BrewDog, and the Scottish brewery is committed to playing an active role in supporting the thriving and ever-growing local craft beer community and helping to promote the local brands globally. Situated on the banks of the Brisbane River at Murarrie, the Brisbane taproom is BrewDog’s 94th bar globally but only its fourth taproom attached directly to one of its breweries.
DogTap Brisbane is the first phase in BrewDog’s expansion Down Under. The brewery will be up and running in January 2020, housing a fully automated four vessel 25HL brewing system that offers flexibility across beer styles and productions.
Started in 2007 by craft beer pioneers James Watt and Martin Dickie, the independent brewery is continuing its crusade to make other people as passionate about great craft beer as they are.
